“Mary” is the intro song of the record and shows a new more pleasant indie-folk side of the band before falling into a medieval sounding rock thump. Vocalist Zach Black says that he tried to write this song about weed, but ended up using classic folk images like witches, magic, and plundered cities to tell the story of humanity turning away from its dogmatic religious nature.
lyrics
Where did you go
Oh Mary, sweet Mary
Where do you hide your love?
You could take
This load that I carry
Oh Mary, on down the road
Torn from their idols
They turned to the witches
In blunderous smoke
As their walls tumbled down
If love can be found
And not love of just riches
We'll put the witch in
The Ground
Where did you go
Oh conscience, my conscience
That used to guide my fate
Could it be tempation has caused you
To rot and die away
Bound to decay from within
As the darkness brings
Noble man down to their
Knees to die
If love can be found
And not love of just riches
From there we will find
The light
Where did you go
Oh Mary, sweet Mary
Where do you hide your love?
The surprisingly comical new video from roaring metal group Red Fang is a tip of the hat to the original “Predator.” Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 12, 2016
